Throwback Thursday - The Time I Turned 30

I am jumping on the "Throw Back Thursday" trend, as it makes me feel as if uploading photos almost four months after they were taken is is totally justifiable.

I am throwing back to this one time I turned 30, and shared an amazing day with the most wonderful group of friends anyone could ask for.

Elle Natural Beauty

Yesterday was a typical manic Monday. Inundated with issues, I could not wait until it was over. So I was really excited when, amongst all the annoying emails, I received one with news that I had won a competition with Elle SA for a Pinterest board that I had created with the theme Natural Beauty.

The Cradle of Humankind

Here are some pics from last weekend – a spontaneous mini road trip to The Cradle of Humankind, Maropeng.

We stayed at the Maropeng Boutique Hotel for the night – What a treat. The room was lovely, and the staff were incredibly friendly, and so helpful. The view from the room is incredible, and shortly after we arrived we enjoyed the most magnificent sunset over the mountains.

After a delicious breakfast we headed to the Maropeng Visitor Centre, and enjoyed a world class exhibition of the development of humans and our ancestors. The tour began with an underground boat ride through all the elements, and then a trip through a vortex into the actual exhibition – which was fascinating. Even though the exhibition is geared towards kids, I found it incredibly interesting, and highly enjoyable.

"Human populations appear to be different in terms of colour, body size, limb proportions, hair texture and other physical attributes. Beneath the surface we are all virtually identical. There is no genetic boundary for race. We are one species."

The next leg of the adventure was the Sterkfontein Caves. This is where the fossils of Mrs. Ples and Little Foot were found. Our tour guide, Danny, was great – and so were my knees while squatting through small spaces during the tour of the cave.

What an immense privilege to live in a place filled with so much history, and such incredible beauty.
